Up close


Most of my street photography is shot on a 28mm lens. 50mm is the most common focal length for street photography as it gives the photographer a good working distance to fulfill the street photography requirement of not disturbing the scene with your presence. 35mm is also a good choice being a little wider and intending to represent the field of view of a pair of eyes or 2, overlapped 50mm lenses with the 50mm meaning to represent the field of view of a single human eye.


I love the 3 dimensionality that a good 28mm lens gives though. It ups the pressure from either of the other focal lengths because one is forced to get much closer to achieve the same framing and still find a way to leave everyone undisturbed in the scene. Derren Brown level misdirection is sometimes needed to draw attention away from the camera in one's hand...


My lens of choice is the Nikon Nikkor 28mm F/1.4e ED mounted on anything. I have used it on the D610, D750, D810, D850, Z6 & Z7. It doesn't matter what you put behind it, the lens is a joy to use.
